Satamosaari island is located along the shipping lane between Lappeenranta and Imatra. The island is a sand and gravel formation of glacial river with soils and various shorelines. The sheltered lagoon of Satamosaari has been created by the melting of a block of ice buried in sand, meaning it is a large kettle open on one side.
